Preparation for New York City’s Specialized High Schools Admissions Test, built backwards from the one morning that counts — what is actually on the paper, how long you get, and what is worth practising first.
The idea
You cannot study everything at once, and drilling before you know your weak areas is the most common way prep time gets wasted. SHSAT Prep opens with a half-hour diagnostic across all three sections, then builds a study plan around your test date that spends your time where it will actually move your score.
What is in it
- A diagnostic that is a map, not a score. Twenty-four questions, about half an hour, across math, reading, and revising & editing. It tells you where to begin.
- More than 1,100 questions, every one written and reviewed by people. No generated filler.
- Worked explanations, not answer keys. Every question explains the route to the answer and why the tempting wrong choice is tempting.
- Full-length practice tests in the digital format, timed, with the real test’s no-going-back rule — because rehearsing the pressure is the point.
- A lesson for every topic you have not met yet, reachable from the question that exposed the gap.
- An error journal that remembers what you got wrong and brings it back at the right time.
- A scratch pad on iPad that keeps your working, so reopening a question shows how you actually attempted it.
- Both Grade 8 and Grade 9 forms, since the test differs by entry year.
How it is sold
The app is free to use, with a real free tier rather than a locked demo — ten new questions a day, and anything you have already answered stays available to redo as many times as you like.
Unlocking everything for a year is a single payment with no auto-renewal. Nothing recurring, nothing to remember to cancel, and no subscription creeping onto a parent’s card twelve months later.
Privacy, briefly
The app contains no networking code at all. Nothing a student types, draws, or answers is sent anywhere, because there is nowhere for it to go and no server on our end to receive it. There are no ads, no analytics, and no trackers. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
When
